“There are specific quality measures that we should be tracking in our daily colonoscopy practice,” said symposia co-chair Ian M. Gralnek, MD, MSHS, FASGE. “Everyone recognizes adenoma detection rate [ADR] as an important measure, but this symposium will look beyond ADR.”

The symposium’s first presenter, David Lieberman, MD, FASGE, head of the division of gastroenterology at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, will discuss the importance of ADR and share strategies to help gastroenterologists improve their rate.

Charles Kahi, MD, FASGE, associate professor of clinical medicine and chief of the gastroenterology section at Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN, will then broaden the discussion to other colonoscopy quality measures that gastroenterologists can use. Brian C.

Jacobson, MD, MPH, FASGE, associate professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, MA, will also discuss the latest colonoscopy preparation recommendations.

The final presenter, Douglas Robertson, MD, chief of gastroenterology and associate professor of medicine at the Dartmouth Institute, Lebanon, NH, will discuss how to get the most value out of colonoscopy. There will be time at the end of the symposium for audience questions.

“This is a very practical clinical symposium for gastroenterologists,” said Dr. Gralnek, chief of the Ellen and Pinchas Mamber Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Ha’Emek Medical Center, Afula, Israel. “We will present practitioners with the latest, most up-to-date evidence on quality in colonoscopy. We want to stress the importance of adenoma detection rate and other important colonoscopy quality measures that practitioners should be evaluating and documenting in their practices.”
